The 53-day/410 hour Protective Security diploma is the new gold standard! Accredited | GI Bill® Approved
ATA College is a fully accredited Institute of Higher Education located in San Diego County, California. SECFOR International’s CEO became part owner of ATA College in 2019 and brought SECFOR’s expertise in designing and delivering public safety and defense training programs with him. The Protective Security Diploma is the most comprehensive protection program available, and is conducted over a 53-day period. Government (WPS, OGA & DOD) and corporate recruiters will come into the classroom to recruit for full-time & contract positions. PROTECTIVE SECURITY DIPLOMA
If there was a PHD in protective programs, the Protective Security pipeline would be it. A graduate of the PS program has passed rigorous training protocols and has proven their capability under realistic and challenging conditions. The Protective Security Diploma verifies that the graduate possesses specialized training and knowledge not readily available or easily achieved, and that said PSC holder has proven their mastery of the key capabilities required for successful protective operations in all threat environments.

Corporate & Celebrity Executive Protection | 8 days
This course covers the day-to-day job duties of an EP agent, and includes mission planning, threat & risk assessment, route mapping, daily activity reporting, after action reports, expense tracking, basics of moving with a client, 3 different types of protective advances, including 360-Virtual advance developing and packaging. Among some of the other skills students practice during this module are procedures to move principals in & out of vehicles, through restaurants, office spaces, public events, entertainment venues, handshake lines, autograph signings, & stage work. The course finishes off with a full overnight detail in Los Angeles where course participants will conduct a detail that you cannot discern from an actual detail. Tracking your principal’s flight, pick ups at Los Angeles International Airport and working your client through multiple venues and back to the hotel where you will work your principal overnight. Instructors for this module are currently working in the corporate and celebrity protective industry, domestically and abroad.
Surveillance Detection/Counter Surveillance/TSCM | 10 days
During this 10-day module students will learn numerous techniques to detect, track, and defeat surveillance through trade-craft and top of the line electronic detection devices. Detecting surveillance is the front line defense in protecting diplomats, government officials, Corporate CEOs and other high value principals. Protection specialists rarely receive complete, realistic training in these topics and the skills learned will add value to any security detail, corporate or government. Picking up where we left off in the HTP module surveillance detection leaves off, students will now complete dedicated surveillance missions, build threat boards to track suspected surveillance, while simultaneously learning electronic countermeasures, GPS detection, bug sweeps, and phone line analysis utilizing top-of-the-line TSCM equipment at your client’s lavish estates in the area. Instructors come from Government and military backgrounds with extensive experience in surveillance & counter surveillance.
PSD Driving Package | 7 days
Our 7-day Protective Security Driving package is the most comprehensive program of it’s kind, and provides an extreme hands-on driving experience. Asphalt, Unimproved road, High & Low Profile PSD driving, Vehicle Dynamics, Advanced Skid control, NVG (Black-out) driving, Ramming-techniques, PIT & Counter PIT, Advanced Reverse Clinics, Attack on Motorcade response, are just some of the features that make this course the most complete driver training available. We would not settle for a parking-lot course and instead train on a 1.2 mile track with a variety of surfaces, cut-outs, and cross roads. After 2 days of vehicle dynamics, skid control, steering, braking, accident avoidance and other drills designed to teach students to dominate a variety of vehicles, we move into PSD driving, Motorcade formations, immediate actions and contact drills until the adrenaline-charged final day of testing. Our driving instructors come from diverse backgrounds from on and off road racing to military and government protective services driving instruction backgrounds.
High Risk First Responder | 6 days
Quality medical training is mandatory for protectors. This program is designed specifically for protectors and we eliminated medical training that was not relevant to the industry. In this 6-day block of instruction participants will earn their Adult, Child & Infant CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross), Be trained in recognizing and responding to Medical Emergencies (Cardiac, Stroke, Allergic Reactions, Environmental Injuries), and receive their Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) provider certification through the NAEMT. This TCCC certification is considered the best in the business and is has been praised by special operations personnel, military medics and the NAEMT’s military medic of the year. Your medical training will not stop here as these skills will resurface later in the pipeline, and be combined with other skills such as live fire evacuations and other protective scenarios. Instructors are all military medics and paramedics that have actually used these techniques in the field under austere conditions.
High Threat Protection | 19 days
This module bridges the gap between conventional domestic protective operations and war-zone PSD work. The 19-day HTP module will provide the training, knowledge, and hard skills, to act as proficient protective team leader/member in all threat areas by focusing on one of the most challenging protective scenarios, High Threat-Low Profile operations. Combat-Marksmanship, Live-fire Immediate Actions, Foreign Weapons training, Unlawful detention, UTM/MGRS Grid Coordinates, Practical Surveillance Detection, CQC with a principal, Combatives for protective agents, Driver-Down, Live-fire Vehicle down and 2 additional protective details complete with detail mapping, advance work, and working with surveillance detection assets during the detail. All of the soft skills, medical and other protocols from earlier modules come into play all the way through the module culminating in an intense final week of testing and evaluation. Instructors are all currently working in hostile environments worldwide, and come off of detail and into the classroom to provide the most current information available.
Testing & Validation | Throughout the program
The testing process you will undergo during the Protective Security Diploma pipeline is the most extensive in the industry. The testing will continue throughout your 53-day training session which will assess each candidate in more than 75 skills and categories, with tasks being graded individually, by team, per course, and overall. Graduates will be placed into a Tier system (1-5) at the conclusion of the course based on their final total points earned from the assessments conducted throughout the program

CHOOSING A PROTECTIVE PROGRAM
When choosing a protective program to start your career in corporate or government security or law enforcement, consider the following factors
Is the program Complete? A proper protective program should include a variety of skills including, Advance Work, Threat-Risk-Vulnerability Assessments, Protective Driving (not just a 2 or 3 day cone course), Medical Emergencies as well as CPR/AED & Emergency & Tactical Trauma care certification, Practical Marksmanship for Protection Professionals, Route Analysis & Mapping, Surveillance Detection, Hands-on TSCM, Contingency Planning, and the list goes on. A 1-hour PowerPoint on one of these subjects will not give the student much more than an introduction to a concept. ATA’s Protective Security Diploma program gives students the time to learn, perform hands on drills, receive critique, repeat.
Are your instructors current? ATA’s instructor staff will come off detail and into the classroom. Instructors are typically finishing up a variety of international work in medium to high risk areas to give students the actual current information on how they kept clients and team members safe in sometimes challenging and dangerous conditions. ATA instructors have worked in over 20 countries this year alone and will walk you through different types of details from A to Z.
How realistic is your training? During the Protective Security Diploma program students will conduct multiple protective details. You first detail will have you picking up your principal at Los Angeles International airport, transporting them to a 4 star hotel that you have already advanced, and then to multiple venues until your client is finished for the evening. But its not over yet, your 1-3 person team will work your principal overnight just as we do on an actual detail. You will be debriefed after you drop your principal off at the airport the following day. Your client is NOT a former student, instructor, etc. This is just detail #1. You will conduct two more full details in a high-risk context, and at least 5 more protective moves with a principal during the Surveillance Detection/TSCM module acting in a variety of roles. After 8 protective details, you start feeling comfortable with the process. Beware of unrealistic training, glorified security guard courses and other courses that do not provide you with the job-skills to actually lead a protective team in a variety of threat environments.
Is the tuition going to training resources? We are asked frequently if we pay for students travel, housing and meals. No we do not (except during Driving as it is in a remote area) We chose to put all of our funds into the training. VA Funded students receive a housing and materials allowance that is to cover these costs. Non VA students will pay for their own travel and housing. If we put tuition funds toward students housing, we would have to find where we could cut training back. As it stands now, we use professional state-of-the-art Law Enforcement training facilities, two multi-million dollar estates for residential surveillance detection, security assessments, TSCM; Full driving track (on & off road) exceed all existing protective driving programs including OGA and federal programs, night driving with NODs (standard and WP), contact driving where students will literally destroy multiple vehicles, multiple instructors daily to give a variety of looks at each problem, specialized medical labs, professional moulage artists to enhance reality of certain medical drills, as well as a variety of other above-and-beyond training sites, equipment, and personnel. In 2020 we have plans to minimize housing costs dramatically and not effect training negatively but actually enhance training.
Simply put, this Protective Security program, is the only fully accredited (institute of higher education, not just as a vocational school), GI Bill approved, and realistic protective academy of its kind. With 50 training days over a span of 53-day, it is an intense one-of-a-kind program that helps the student experience, and become comfortable with, a variety of protective environments and client types as well as earning credits towards a college degree.
