STEPS FOR STUDENTS TO COMPLETE VA FROM 1990
Step 1. Gather needed items to complete application:
Social Security number (required), military history (required), information on school/training facility-MiraCosta Community Education & Workforce Development (required), bank account/direct deposit information, and education history.
Note: You will not be able to save your work or come back later once initiating the application.
Note: Process will take approximately 20 minutes.
Step 2. Go to:
https://www.vets.gov/education/apply/#modal
Go down to “Ready to apply?” section, click the green “Select Correct Form” button, and select “Apply for a new benefit” from the dropdown menu. Answer proceeding questions and click the green “Apply now” button. The system will take you to a new page which will break down each step the application will go through. Once you have reviewed each step click the blue “Get Started” button.
Step 3. There are 8 total steps. Complete steps 1-5, which are:
Step 1 Veteran Information, step 2 Benefits Eligibility, step 3 Military History, step 4 Education History, and step 5 Employment History.
Step 4. Step 6 of 8 is “School Selection”. Under “Type of education or training” select “College, university, or other educational program, including online courses” from the dropdown menu. Under “Name of School, university, or training facility” manually type in “MiraCosta College Community Education & Workforce Development”. Under “Address” enter 2075 Las Palmas Drive, Carlsbad CA 92011. Under “Education or career goal” manually type in “High Threat Protection Specialist”. Finally, under “The date your training began or will begin” select start date of the earliest course you will attending.
Note: Ensure to select a date on or before your initial start date.
Step 5. Complete step 7 of 8, Personal Information.
Step 6. Complete step 8 of 8, Review application. Review each section, read and accept “privacy policy”. Once complete click the blue “Submit Application” button.
NOTE: It can take up to 30 days for the VA to process your application. Your application must be fully processed and your benefits approved and cleared by MiraCosta College Community Education & Workforce Development’s School Certifying Official (SCO) before you will be able to start courses. Avoid purchasing travel accommodations before you are 100% cleared.
